YES! what you mentioned is exactly what i was gonna recommend. Try having an enemy clan, NAWT vampires. Maybe then the main character falls in love with the child of the leader of the enemy clan. i know it sounds like twilight but make it different. Write from a guy's perspective but make it interesting. Also make it realistic instead of pure fantasy like Twilight. But make it not lovey-dovey romance.
