Any ideas for fundraising to pay for a disabled person's house?

I'm looking for ideas on how to raise money to make it possible for a friend to be able to stay in his house. He lost his wife to cancer a few years ago and then he had a stroke. He has been disabled since the stroke and borrowed too much money. And now he is in danger of losing his home if we can not obtain the money he needs to pay off his mortgage. His social worker says he will not be able to tolerate further stress and will not last a year in an institution. He still has a good mind and has been trying to recover.
