Why not check out peccaries? The three species (family Tayuidae) are New World residents that bear many similarities to Old World member of the family Suidae. They have, however, some astonishing differences and remarkable adaptations. If you can find anything by Dr. Lyle Sowls, so much the better, because in addition to him being a great scientist, I find I can understand his writings- not all that common in the scientific community.
