To anyone who watched Skyline?

At the end of the movie, why when the aliens sucked up the girl and the guy, why was his brain red and the other brains were a different color? The alien became him i understand that part. But why was his brain special? And if so why did they kill him by taking his head off. If they were so called aliens couldn't they have noticed that there was something special about him before they killed him?
